Stress is our bodies way of alerting us that there is a strain or condition that we should avoid. It can be any type of reaction, whether physical, mental, or emotional.

Various things, such as work, family sickness, or financial difficulties, might cause stress. These are the most prevalent factors that induce our brain to send stress or obstacle messages. Though not all pressures are bad, some do encourage us to improve our performance and bring out the best in us.

Stress Symptoms-These are the various symptoms of stress which are categorized below:

Acute Stress

There are times when we get stressed for a reason like before giving an exam, presentation or performing in front of a live audience. These stressors are short-lived and motivate us to perform better. In this type of stress common symptoms like sweating of the palm, heart beating, breathing faster and butterflies in the stomach are common. These symptoms are called “fight-or-flight response”, which is the chemical reaction that prepares our body for the physical reaction when it thinks it is under attack.

There are occasions when we become stressed for a specific purpose, such as giving an exam or presenting a presentation in front of a live audience. These stressors are transient, and they encourage us to improve our performance. Common indications of this form of stress include palm-sweating, rapid heartbeat, shallow breathing, and stomach butterflies. These signs and symptoms are known as the "fight-or-flight response," which is a chemical reaction that prepares our bodies for a physical response when they believe they are being attacked.

Chronic Stress

If we hold on to our stress for too long, it can harm our mental, physical, and emotional health. We need to be aware of the signs and symptoms of chronic stress so that we can respond appropriately when they arise.

Physical Effects of chronic stress include:

  • Headache and Head pain
  • A sleep disorder ( Trouble in sleeping or sleeping too much)
  • Indigestion
  • Change in sex drive
  • High blood pressure

Emotional effects of chronic stress include:

  • Inability to get things done
  • Moodiness & Restlessness
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of Motivation
  • Irritability

There may be instances when we feel helpless and are unable to handle a situation, in such cases, it is advisable to talk it over with a friend, family member, or a professional.

Stress Causes

Individuals experience stress in different ways. What may cause anxiety in one individual may not be same in another. However, there are a variety of stressors that might have a negative effect, including.

  • Being Bullied
  • Work Overload
  • Unemployed
  • Recent break-up or divorce
  • Death in the family
